Seen in FBDO
This Certificate of Appreciation awarded to Mr. Rooney is best seen beginning at 00:08:44 in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off as Grace pulls multiple pencils from her hair. The certificate can be seen hanging in Mr. Rooney’s office through the open door behind Grace.

Description
In 2018, PropStore.com featured and sold a screen-used item from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – a matted and framed “Certificate of Appreciation” which had been presented to Mr. Rooney and proudly displayed on his office wall. Although the certificate is only seen in the film for a few seconds – and not in any shot where the text is at all readable – the sales listing provided a clear look at one of the accolades bestowed upon Ed Rooney during his career in education.

Appreciation was given to Mr. Rooney “who gave freely of his time, effort, and talents in the development procedures for improvement of County Government.” The embossed gold seal features the official logo of the State of California – specifically, a notary public seal from Los Angeles County.
Notes
The certificate is endorsed by Christa Brown (Secretary) and Frank J. Johnston (Chairman of Board). Although there is no known significance of these two names in relation to Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, if anyone happens upon any connection to the film, I’d be eager to hear more!
It should also be noted that interior scenes shot in Mr. Rooney's office were filmed inside El Camino Real Charter High School in Woodland Hills, California. This likely explains the State of California seal on the certificate.
Find Your Own
This screen-used prop is, of course, one of a kind. But like any over-the-top fan taking this kind of crazy dive into the depths of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, I felt it was only right to replicate this Certificate of Appreciation so I could at least add a reproduction to my collection!

If you’d like a copy of your own to display in tribute to Shermer High’s illustrious Dean of Students, pick one up in the Third Quarter Run storefront. The replica is a near-spot-on reproduction down to the embossed gold seal!
