Description

The poster seen in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is in promotion of the Wall of Voodoo album Seven Days in Sammystown which showcases the band's unique blend of rock, new wave, and experimental sounds. Released in 1985, this album marked a significant departure from their earlier work, as it featured a new lineup with Andy Prieboy taking over lead vocals.

While Seven Days in Sammystown may not have achieved the same commercial success as some of Wall of Voodoo's earlier work, it remains a popular album among fans and critics – specifically tracks like “Far Side of Crazy” and “This Business of Love.”

Notes

  • Seen in the film, the right half of the poster is covered up by another poster on Ferris’s bedroom wall.

Finding This Item

Trying to find another shot of Ferris’s bedroom that showed a better view or maybe even more of this poster proved to be more difficult than I’d hoped. The best possibility had to have been the wide shot of the room as Ferris dives into bed at the end of the film, but the top of the shot is cut off with the poster just out of view.

I’d exhausted every possibility I could think of when it came to two-person music combos from the genres represented elsewhere in Ferris’s bedroom and I had nearly reached the point of surrender. Then, glancing through screenshots from the open matte version of FBDO, a few letters caught my eye. The same shot seen above reveals the text “OODOO” just below where the two people would be on the poster seen earlier in the film.

Saving any “something D-O-O” jokes here, I cut to the chase and started looking for Wall of Voodoo posters. From there, it didn’t take long to find the poster from the film.
