School Entrance Photo

Seen in FBDO

During multiple scenes in Mr. Rooney’s office, three framed pictures can be seen on the counter behind his chair. The one furthest to the left – seen below at 00:09:39 in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off – appears to show a set of outdoor stairs leading to a building entrance.

Description

Enlarging this picture, the landscape should be immediately familiar to most FBDO fans.

The framed image features nothing more than the entrance to the school where Mr. Rooney stands with Sloane as they await the arrival of “her father.”

This shot in the movie was filmed outside the entrance to the Sheely Center for the Performing Arts at Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, Illinois. Taking a look at this location on Google Street View, the structure of the stairs and the surrounding building are clearly the same as what is seen in the photo.

This is where the imagination is able to run with theories as to why Mr. Rooney would have a framed image in his office of just one of several entrances to his school building.

Was he responsible for a grant that provided funding for the performing arts center and he's showing his pride with the picture?

Maybe the arts center was named after a former colleague and friend of Mr. Rooney?

Answers are needed here because this photo is incredibly random … yet intriguing.

Notes

While the entrance to the Sheely Center for the Performing Arts is located on the Sherman Drive side (East side) of Glenbrook North High School, the building’s main entrance and official address is based on the street found on the school’s South side: 2300 Shermer Road.

Of course, Shermer High School is the name given to the school in this and other films directed by John Hughes.
