A copy of this textbook can be seen at 01:36:30 in the film as Ferris hurries into his bedroom after Jeanie rescues him from Mr. Rooney. The book is on the bottom of two books stacked on Ferris’s desk.

The same textbook can also be found among many others on the shelf in Mr. Rooney’s office. It can be seen just over Grace’s right shoulder as she tries to warn Mr. Rooney that “Ferris Bueller’s on line two” (00:21:07).

Description
Modern School Mathematics (Algebra 1) was first published in 1967 by Houghton Mifflin Company with the version seen in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off coming a few years later in 1970.
The cover of the textbook is described on the first page:
“The bouncing balls shown on the cover are made of a blend of rubber and plastic. Chemists use them to study the effect that adding small amounts of plastic has on the elasticity of rubber. A bouncing ball follows a parabolic path. Parabolas as graphs of quadratic functions are discussed in Chapter 10.”

Notes
While it’s not out of the ordinary to see this book among many others in Mr. Rooney’s office, it does seem odd that Ferris would have this book easily accessible on the desk in his bedroom considering he is currently enrolled in Calculus – a much more advanced level of mathematics.
