Description

The video camera in Ferris’s bedroom is a General Electric Auto Focus Newvicon – Model 1CVC6033E.

According to page 77 of the 1987 Video Magazine Buyer’s Guide, the 6033E features “automatic focus, 0.33" Newvicon tube, 6:1 power zoom, f1.2 lens, instant-replay through electronic viewfinder, 20 lux low-light sensitivity, auto iris/white balance, and automatic dating.”

Viewing FBDO in full-screen or open matte format, the camera can be seen mounted on a tripod and pointed in the direction of the horse chair to Ferris’s left.

Notes

After opening the curtains, Ferris adjusts the settings on his stereo as he prepares for the day ahead. On the television screen behind him is a shot of the horse chair mentioned above. This television is, of course, displaying a live feed from the video camera (Despite the fact that just seconds earlier, Ferris was watching MTV on the same television).

Finding This Item

By adjusting the brightness and contrast of this shot, the shape and layout of the buttons on the camera seen in FBDO are a clear match with the GE 1CVC6033E. Notice the slanted gray top with black body, square eye piece, black button on top, and two rows of white text above/below the buttons on the side.

That said, you may notice that the eye piece on Ferris’s camera is slightly different than the GE 1CVC6033E. This difference is simply the result of a missing rubber eye cup over the viewfinder. Removing the eye cup from the 1CVC6033E and it’s now a perfect match.
