Description

A mappa mundi is a map originating in medieval European times. One of the oldest examples of such a document is this particular map created by Venetian geographer and cosmographer Giovanni Leardo. According to the Library of Congress, this particular map shows the parts of the world known to Europeans in the late middle ages including Europe, Asia and Africa.

A full-size color facsimile of this map, along with an accompanying text by John K. Wright, was published in 1928. The text was a detailed analysis of the map’s history and detail.
