Seen in FBDO

This koala plaque is seen a few times during Ferris Bueller’s Day Off including the scene at 00:08:48 when Grace begins pulling pencils from her hair. Later, it is shown a little closer at  00:46:15 when Jeanie is in the school office hoping to speak with Mr. Rooney. The plaque can be found on the wall directly behind Grace as she sits at her desk.

Description

This small wooden plaque measures approximately 6” x 6” and was produced by Hallmark Cards, Inc. It features a koala bear and a mouse – clearly friends to one another – with the phrase “Sometimes the perfect gift to give is a cheery smile” over their heads.

Finding This Item

Even though Grace’s plaque is only seen a few times in the film and it’s quite small when it does show up on screen, it was pretty clear that the larger figure in the image was a koala bear. Combined with the fact that the design somewhat resembles the original Shirt Tales characters and it screamed “‘70s and ‘80s Hallmark” when looking at it, I did a quick Google search for “Hallmark Koala.” And there it was.
