Mr. Rooney’s coffee mug is seen a few times in scenes taking place in his office including the one below – at approximately 00:09:49 in the film – when Mr. Rooney has called Mrs. Bueller to inform her of Ferris’s absence from school. The mug can be seen on Mr. Rooney’s desk just behind his name plate.

The Far Side is a popular single-panel comic which ran from 1979 until the 1995 retirement of creator and artist Gary Larson.
This mug is one of several produced by the Fairway, Kansas company OZ in the early 1980s. The original comic featured on Mr. Rooney's mug is seen below.
